…Chapter 3 Part 3…
***BONUS PROJECT***

Remember I said there was a secret, fun project included in the class.

Here it is. It requires you to use your imagination and go ahead on your own some, but is really fun and makes great gifts.

Even though we haven’t decorated Milli’s shoes yet, you will see with this project, that the decorations are glued on for the most part. I use Low Temp hot glue, or super tacky glue.

I am sure you have all seen those shoes in gift shops called " Just The Right Shoe". They are all kinds of shoes, done in resin and they are beautiful and expensive.

When I was doing the shoes for Milli’ I thought, what fun it would be to make cloth shoes, with part of the leg, all decorated and glued to small wood plaques.

Following are some I have done.

The "stumps" of the legs are decorated in ribbons, flowers buttons etc. The "stumps" can be from 2" to 4" long. Just cut a new pattern from your leg pattern, but only do the shoe and part way up the leg.

Use the Freezer paper method for sewing these, just like for the legs.

The shoes are Gessoed, painted, glittered, flowered, bowed, etc.

Some have clay pieces added to them.

The tops of the "stumps" are gathered after stuffing firmly.

All were fun and the styles one could make are nearly limitless.

The boards were simply sanded a little, painted with acrylic paint and some were glittered, some have streaks added with another color paint, some have gold webbing spray sprayed on, etc. and then they were sprayed with clear acrylic spray.

Below are some shoe shapes in the beginning form.

They have been lightly drawn on and gessoed only.

The Gesso doesn’t have to be real thick. It simply seals the fabric surface, and let’s you put the paint on easier.

A shoe with front straps.

A very plain shoe, but it will be decorated.
This shoe got a painted instep. I didn’t end
up liking the very plain high shoe.

This shoe will have the clay piece glued
back on. I baked the foot with the clay
in place and it broke off.

This clay piece has been glued on. It was
formed, removed and then baked.
After cooling it was glued on.
It is a cut out tab, and a cut out bow.

A bright gold, strappy shoe in progress
This is ready for trimmings.

The white, plain shoe in progress.
This is ready for the instep to be painted,
"skin" colored, and for trimmings.

The shoe that needed the clay piece
glued back on. This shoe needs another
coat of paint.

The shoe with the clay and bow on.
I am leaving the under part of
the front tab white. This shoe is now ready
for trimming.

Just wait til you see these all trimmed with lace, flowers, beads, cord, ribbons etc. At the very end of the chapter there are 4 pair of shoes on dolls here in my shop. All of this will get you thinking about what you can do with a little trim and perhaps some clay, all applied to simple, painted cloth shoes.

Painted gold. Gold braid trim glued all around,3 old fashioned buttons with the shanks cut offglued to the straps. Gold ribbons andmore old fashioned buttons decorate thetop of the leg stump.Brick Red base with Filigree spray.

This shoe had the front painted skin color.I decided I didn’t like the high front.Gold pleated trim around the back andsides. Gold braid all around the edge. A gold bow in front. The stump is decorated with gold and white ribbons and white roses.Pale green base with filigree spray.

This pink shoe has pearls glued to the edge of the tab and the bow.A glittery braid trim is glued around the sides and back.3 ribbon roses decorate the front. This shoe had a coat of Mod Podge added for shine. The stump is decorated with pink and white ribbons and pearls, with ribbon roses at the top.Pink base with filigree spray and braid trim.

The blue shoe has crystal glitter sprinkled over the wet paint. The tab, back and sides have tiny, multicolored, glass beads glued around the edges.Ribbon roses decorate the front, and pink and blue, ribbons and flowers decorate the stump.Pink base, streaked with white paint and sprinkled with crystal glitter.

The following shoes are on dolls here in the shop.

Red with tabs, braid trim, pearls and flowers. The painted surface has a coat of Mod Podge on it for shine.

Metal paint in gold with black and gold braid and flowers.A very simple shoe.

Blue with tabs and glitter. Cord trim and a pretty buttonat the ankle, with a flower at the vamp.
