Bleuette in Cloth! MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES LIST FOR ONE "BLEUETTE" DOLL You will have excess fabric for both the doll and the dress. 1. 1/4 th yard or 1/4 th meter of craft velour. Doll Face Pink is the shade I use. 2. Two 20mm wooden balls (with a small, 1/8" hole.) (these are for the knees) 3. Four 14mm wooden balls (with a small 1/8" hole.) (these are for the elbows and ankles) UPDATE: Sources for Wooden Balls. The Beads are now available from the Doll Net Market. We have the Beads (both sizes) and Cord available separately and for the best value we offer a Kit with enough beads and cord for 2 Bleuette dolls. To order go to... http://dollnetmarket.com/shop/home.php?cat=11 Or go to http://dollnetmarket.com and click on the Class Supply link on the bottom of the left navigational menu. 4. Plastic grapes…Four the size of the 20mm wooden balls and 8 the size of the 14mm wooden balls. A fraction bigger is great. 5. One package of Stretch Magic elastic cord in the 1.8mm size. UPDATE: Sources for Stretch Magic elastic Cord. The Stretch Magic elastic Cord is now available from the Doll Net Market. We have the Cord and Beads (both sizes) available separately and for the best value we offer a Kit with enough beads and cord for 2 Bleuette dolls. To order go to... http://dollnetmarket.com/shop/home.php?cat=11 Or go to http://dollnetmarket.com and click on the Class Supply link on the bottom of the left navigational menu. 6. Two metal shank buttons about ¾" to 1" across. The package says 36mm and they are made by Dritz. These 2 buttons are for the hip joints. NOTE …You can even use metal clothing buttons in about the same size. UPDATE: Online Source http://DollMakersJourney.com 7. Two very small 3/8" metal shank buttons for the shoulder joints. I use clothing buttons here because the very small Dritz buttons are very hard to find. (I actually had some bridal gown buttons that worked very well.) NOTE… The upper arms are so small and light, that you can even use plastic shank buttons here. 8. About 4 yards/meters of very strong nylon cord for jointing the hips, shoulders and neck. You can find this in bead stores. Another thing you can use is nylon dental floss. If you use dental floss, double the amount, because you will have to use more strands. 9. Freezer Paper to retrace your pattern pieces onto. UPDATE: Online Source http://DollMakersJourney.com 10. Excellent quality polyester stuffing…The wiry kind that packs well…NOT the slippery kind. Buffalo Batt, Putnam, WalMart's Create A Craft, Airtex Economy, or the best Poly Fill…or…Wool stuffing are all fine. NOTE… If you have a special stuffing that works very well for you, please use what you have, but if stuffing has been a problem, try the above.. and …a screwdriver for a stuffing tool. 11. A long, thin, flat blade screwdriver for a stuffing tool. The flat blade allows you to move stuffing easily and even go next to the "skin" to flatten a bump. Forceps hurt your thumb and they also pull stuffing out as you remove them. 12. A stuffing needle for inserting the chenille stems into the fingers. For this small doll I cut part of the eye off of 5" to 6" doll needle. The "fork" needs to be no more than a scant 1/8" long, so it doesn't catch in the fabric as you slide the chenille stems into place. NOTE… If you have the small Barbara Willis Stuffing fork, it will work, but it needs to have the fork cut shorter for the easiest use. You may need no needle at all for getting the chenille stems in place for this small doll. 13. Krazy Glue or other smelly glue like 527 Bond. 14. A 7" to 9" jointing needle. In CRs Crafts catalog they are called Soft Sculpture needles, but this length is too fat to use for sculpting. It is for jointing. 15. A size 6-7" doll wig. Any style you desire. I like the little, short W959 from http://www.dollsupply.com This is the Antina's Doll Supplies web site. When the W959 is styled it looks like the cute short bobs from the 1930s. They also have many other styles and many colors. You choose, long, short, braided, curly or straight! Bleuette loves new hairdo's! 16. A pair of doll shoes about 1 ½" long by 5/8" wide. Also from the web site above if desired, or from Jean and Ken Nordquist at http://www.jeannordquistdolls.com/ Jean told me that their 32mm shoes fit Bleuette. I have sized the cloth Bleuette's feet to fit this size shoe with the round front. 17. Craft Glue and a glue stick. 18. Little Doll Socks or you can make them from the pattern in this class. 19. 1/4 th Yard or 1/4 th Meter of cotton print for the dress and a bit of contrast fabric for the sleeve cuffs and belt if desired. You can of course make the cuffs and belt from the dress fabric 20. 9" of 1½" wide lace for neckline. I like the crochet look Cluny Lace. 21. Ten inches of 3" wide eyelet lace for the panties. SUPER SIMPLE panties! or a scrap of fabric 10" X 4". 22. 1/4 th yard (or just a scrap from your stash) of plain white or ecru fabric for the slip. 23. Acrylic paints If you don't already have paints, the tiny "Paint Pot Sets" are great. Be sure to get Acrylic not Poster paint! You will need at least black, white, red, and an eye color. 24. A VERY tiny, ten 0s, pointed paintbrush. This type of paintbrush is called a "spotter." 25. White Gesso. 26. Colored pencils in at least a tan for shading and a blue or fuscia etc. for coloring the edges of the pattern templates for ease of "seeing and sewing". As I get older it is harder to see the white Freezer Paper against the soft peach fabric. This new technique really helps! 27. People blush in a soft pink. 28. A small button for the belt…and…snaps for the dress and slip closings. (belt too if desired) 29. Six inches of 3/8" wide elastic for panties. 30. Threads to match fabrics and any sewing supplies that you normally use, for hand and machine sewing. Updated: And, last but not least!! Your best dollmaking skills and an open mind as to the use of GRAPES in a doll! "grin" Questions on supplies please post a question on the Black Board... Click HERE! |
